How to Share WiFi on iOS

Connecting a Device to Your iOS Personal Hotspot

Connecting a Device to Your iOS Personal Hotspot

One of the most exciting parts of using a personal hotspot is sharing your internet connection with other devices. This feature especially comes in handy when you have limited data on your mobile carrier plan, and you need to use your iPhone or iPad to connect other devices to the internet. Fortunately, Apple made the process of sharing your iOS hotspot simple. To get started, follow the guide below:

Step 1: Turn On Your Personal Hotspot

The first thing you need to do is turn on your iOS personal hotspot. To do this, go to your device ‘Settings’ app and find the ‘Personal Hotspot’ option. Click on it and toggle the switch next to ‘Personal Hotspot’ to turn it on. When it is active, your device will start broadcasting a wifi network that is available for other devices to connect to.

Step 2: Connect Your Device to the Wifi Network

After successfully turning your personal hotspot on, it’s time to connect other devices to your wifi network. To do this, go to the devices you want to connect and open the ‘Settings’ app. Click on the ‘Wifi’ option to view available wifi networks in your area. Find the network with the name of your hotspot and connect to it. Note that the password will be the same as the one you set up while turning on the Personal hotspot.

Step 3: Verify Connection

Once the device has successfully joined your personal hotspot network, it should automatically start browsing the internet using your iPhone or iPad’s cellular data connection. You should see the signal strength indicator at the top left corner of the receiving device change from 4G/LTE or Wi-Fi to the hotspot’s signal. You can also confirm that the devices are connected to your hotspot by checking the ‘Personal Hotspot’ section under your device ‘Settings’ app.

Tip: How to Troubleshoot Connection Problems

Like with any network, sometimes you may encounter connection problems when sharing your iOS hotspot. The most common issues reported by users include devices unable to locate the personal hotspot, weak signal strength, or authentication errors. In such cases, we recommend the following troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure your hotspot is turned on and the device is nearby
  • Restart your iPhone or iPad
  • Turn off the device you’re trying to connect, then turn it back on
  • Double-check your password to ensure that you used the correct one
  • Reset your iPhone or iPad network settings from the ‘Settings’ app under ‘General’ and ‘Reset.’

By following these steps, you should be able to enjoy seamless connectivity between your iOS device and other devices you use.
